In 2003, Disney released the film Freaky Friday, based on the 1972 novel penned by Mary Rogers. The movie, which starred Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis and was directed by Mark Waters, was a massive success, grossing $160 million globally to date.

To this day, the film remains one of the funniest family movies and is the first to come to mind in the body-swap genre. For the last 20 years, fans have been patiently waiting and hoping for a sequel to the beloved movie, and it looks like the time may have finally come.

What was the original Freaky Friday about?

The 2003 film Freaky Friday tells the story of Tess, played by Jamie Lee Curtis, a single mother who is forever at odds with her teenage daughter, Anna, played by Lohan. The pair of total opposites receive a peculiar fortune from a Chinese restaurant, and the following morning they awake to learn that somehow switched bodies overnight. Neither has any idea how to switch back, so they have no choice but to live as one another until they figure out how to rectify this mistake.
