Updated: Mar. 09, 2023

One of the most beloved sitcoms of all time is getting a reboot, with Kelsey Grammer reprising his role as Dr. Frasier Crane once again.

A spin-off from Cheers, Frasier premiered on NBC in 1993 and ran for an impressive 11 seasons. The sitcom, which starred Kelsey Grammer as the flawed yet well-intentioned Dr. Frasier Crane, received tremendous critical acclaim and amassed a loyal audience over the years. Today, the series is recognized as one of the greatest sitcoms of all time, which is likely why it’s getting a reboot!

What can we expect to see in the Frasier reboot?

Nearly two decades after the Frasier series finale, the reboot finds Dr. Frasier Crane living in a different city, ready to take on new challenges, new relationships and new opportunities. Grammer has stated that the new Frasier will continue to honor the original series, including the passing of John Mahoney, who played Frasier’s father, Martin Crane, for all eleven seasons.

Kelsey Grammer has signed on to reprise his role of Dr. Frasier Crane, and it was recently confirmed that Bebe Neuwirth would return in a guest-starring role as Frasier’s ex-wife, Lilith. Other names that are already attached to the Frasier reboot cast include Jack Cutmore-Scott in the role of Frasier’s son, Freddy, Nicholas Lyndhurst as Frasier’s former college classmate, Alan, Toks Olagundoye as the head of the psychiatry department at a prestigious university, Jess Salgueiro as Freddy’s college roommate and Anders Keith as Frasier’s nephew, David.

While some of the classic show’s original cast is returning, audiences will not see the return of David Hyde Pierce as Niles Crane. The actor chose not to reprise his role, as have other cast members, including Jane Leeves, who played Daphne, and Peri Gilpin, who played Roz. Sadly, John Mahoney, who played Frasier’s father, Martin Crane, passed away in 2018.

When will the Frasier reboot be out?

While the powers that be behind the Frasier reboot have yet to announce an official Frasier reboot release date, it has been confirmed that new episodes will stream on Paramount+. In the meantime, anyone who wants to catch up with the world’s most beloved sitcom psychiatrist can watch old episodes of Cheers and Frasier on Peacock.
