We’re Obsessed With Prince Harry’s Favorite Fast-Food Order

Updated: Mar. 12, 2024

Make that a Double Double, animal-style! Meghan Markle opens up about her husband Prince Harry's secret fast-food indulgences.

Prince Harry has become way more adjusted to life in the United States than you’d expect from a true blue, royally-raised Briton.

In a recent interview with Variety, Meghan Markle noted that ever since the couple relocated to Montecito, California in 2020 (after abdicating their royal titles, leaving London for good and moving into a beautiful mansion), her husband has slowly been picking up some rather American habits, and that includes cruising through the drive-thru of the fast-food chain In-N-Out to pick up burgers and fries.

Prince Harry’s favorite fast food is an In-N-Out burger

“It’s funny,” Markle told Variety. “People sometimes think we live in Los Angeles, but we’re a good two hours outside of it. We’re commuters. We drove down recently for a day of back-to-back meetings, equipped with chocolate chip cookies the size of my toddler’s head. Also, my husband’s favorite is In-N-Out. There’s one at the halfway point between L.A. and our neck of the woods.”

She added that they indeed go to the popular fast-food joint fairly often. “It’s really fun to go through the drive-thru and surprise them,” she said. “They know our order.”

All of which makes us insanely curious—how do you think Prince Harry like his In-N-Out best? While you can swap out the bun for a lettuce wrap to make it carb-free, we’re guessing Harry hasn’t gone that Californian yet, and maybe is more of a classic “Double Double” kind of guy.

In the interview, Markle also got candid about what life was like since leaving their royal duties to focus on entertainment-related projects like her Spotify podcast Archetypes, their upcoming docuseries directed by Liz Garbus and creating content for Netflix.

“My husband has never worked in this industry before,” she said, noting that it had been more of an adjustment for him than it was for her. (Markle spent seven years acting on the USA Network drama Suits before she met Prince Harry.)

Markle noted that working from home together on these projects was the ideal situation because they could spend tons of time with their kids Archie Harrison, 3, and Lilibet Diana, 1.

“We share an office,” she said. “We work from home, as most people started to do during lockdown. It allows us to have significant time with our kids at this really special moment in their lives. We’ll never get this time back.”

Why is the In-N-Out burger so good?

Of course, grabbing some to-go food is par for the course when you’re as busy as this couple, but they’re not the only celebrity fans of the California-based burger chain. Julia Roberts, Reese Witherspoon and Adele have all posted about eating In-N-Out, and for good reason.

The 100% USDA ground chuck burger meat is never frozen, and it’s free of additives, preservatives and fillers, making for a super fresh-tasting patty.

“Animal-style” is the term you use when you want your burger with their special sauce (it’s basically a ketchup-mayo, Thousand Island-type of spread), and you can get your onions raw, caramelized or even grilled. The bun comes from another local California bakery, and it’s a sponge dough that rises for seven hours—perfect for sopping up all the flavors!
