Smile! You’re on camera

With most under some form of shelter-in-place orders, we’re collectively making more video calls and holding more virtual meetings and even virtual happy hours than ever before. One of the quickest ways to look polished and pulled together, whatever the occasion of your video call, is to pull on a top in a solid gem tone like ruby or emerald or a small dainty print, shares Jasmine Snow, a style expert based in New York City. But more than anything, “it’s really important right now to wear clothes that make you happy and feel good, general guidelines aside,” she says. Read on for our picks of the best stylish tops for all your virtual calls this spring. While you’re at it, make sure you’re following these 13 golden rules to working from home

This emerald green linen shirt won’t just make you light up on screen, it’s also super comfy and breathable, so it won’t feel that much different from your PJs. Picking the right top is only half the battle when it comes to looking good on screen—you’ll also want to position your laptop correctly to avoid looking like you have that dreaded turtle neck. To do this, set the camera a bit higher than your head, advises Snow. “Stack up a few books and place the computer on top, then adjust the screen so that it’s angled slightly downward toward your face.”
