As Reader’s Digest celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2022, we were delighted to receive a congratulatory letter from across the pond—specifically, from Windsor Castle. Queen Elizabeth II, the longest-reigning monarch in Britain’s history, sent an inspiring centennial message celebrating our stories and readers.
To say we were honored to receive Queen Elizabeth’s note is an understatement. Young Queen Elizabeth took the throne in 1952 at age 25 following the passing of her father, King George VI. Her reign continued for 70 years until her death on Sept. 8, 2022, a testament to the promise she delivered on her 21st birthday: She would serve for life.
The Queen’s letter reads:
“As Reader’s Digest celebrates its One Hundredth year, it is with great pleasure that I send my best wishes to you, the readers and all those associated with the publication.
Founded with the spirit of bringing the best writing to a worldwide audience, you have enlightened, encouraged and entertained individuals on a variety of subjects and important issues.
On this notable anniversary, I wish you every success for the future and hope you continue to inspire people around the world through the power of the written word for many years to come.”
