The Surprising Thing Prince Harry Said About His Brother and His Dad

Updated: Jan. 13, 2023

Prince Harry also addressed if he will ever return to full-time royal life.

Over the past few weeks, there’s been no shortage of viral Prince Harry and Meghan Markle clips.

The couple’s Dec. 2022 Netflix docuseries was not only wildly successful—it quickly racked up “the highest view hours of any documentary series in a premiere week,” according to Netflix—but also fueled royal controversies while revealing stunning tidbits and Buckingham Palace insights that social media had lots of thoughts on, to say the least.

Now, the beginning of 2023 promises to deliver similar results—starting with the release of Prince Harry’s highly-anticipated memoir, Spare, on Jan. 10. However, even ahead of his impending book, Prince Harry has once again divulged some family drama. It really is starting to feel like Season 6 of The Crown has dropped early.

This time in the ongoing royal family feud, it has to do with some of Harry’s closest family members: Prince William and King Charles III.

What does Prince Harry say about his brother and the King?

Prior to his book release, Prince Harry has two interviews that have been teased to the public. One is with the British outlet ITV and the other is with Anderson Cooper for 60 Minutes. Both will air on Jan. 8.

In a preview of his conversation with Tom Bradby for ITV, Prince Harry opens up about his distaste for the royal system. “I want a family, not an institution,” he says.

Despite all the drama that has gone down, Harry reveals that he still hopes to one day reunite with William and Charles. “I would like to get my father back. I would like to have my brother back,” Harry asserts in a teaser for the interview.

What else does Prince Harry discuss in the two interviews?

In both interviews, Prince Harry emphasizes the role the media and the Palace played in the Sussex’s decision to step down from royal duties. Similarly to what was touched upon in the couple’s Netflix docuseries, Harry alleges that information was leaked to the media by the Palace to poorly portray the Sussexes—and Meghan, in particular.

The Prince maintains that while some disapprove of him and Meghan revealing private details, that it was necessary.

When asked by Anderson Cooper why he didn’t just address these concerns privately, Prince Harry responds: “Every single time I tried to do it privately, there have been briefings and leakings and planting of stories against me and my wife.” Subsequently, the Prince felt as if there was no choice but to go public with his side of the story.

“There becomes a point where silence is betrayal,” Harry affirms in the upcoming interview.

Will Harry ever return as a full-time member of the royal family?

While he may want to someday reunite with his brother and father, Harry has no intention of ever returning to royal life.

When asked by Cooper if he could ever foresee himself returning, Harry simply answers, “no” in a 60 Minutes preview. What else the Prince may have to add to that “no” is yet to be seen.

Fresh off a Christmas at Sandringham, no other royals or the Palace have responded to Prince Harry’s comments or claims. And while Prince William and Kate did make a royal visit to Boston in early December, there was no reconciliation in sight.

As for if the royals reunite one day, only time will tell.
