Your summer plan is written in the stars

Summer might have officially kicked off on June 21, but there’s still plenty of time to enjoy the warmer temperatures and brighter skies. And if you’re hunting for some new things to add to your summer bucket list, why not look to the stars for some guidance?

Astrology can show you a lot about yourself and your personality. Everything from your zodiac compatibility to the best job for your skill set is illuminated by your zodiac sign. And while you should never let your horoscope make all the decisions for you, it can be fun to see what the astrology of this summer has in store. That’s why we think it’s time to break out your summer bucket list and see if you can sneak in a few more activities before fall rolls around.

Yours doesn’t need to be one of the luckiest zodiac signs for you to have a summer full of magic; you can create your own unforgettable memories. And your zodiac sign can help you understand your preferences and point you toward pastimes that suit your personality. So whether yours is the happiest zodiac sign in your friend group or one that needs a bit of convincing to let loose, there’s a summer activity for you. To help you add to your summer bucket list, we asked professional astrologers Kayla Murphy and Lacey Ramburger to choose the best summer bucket list activity for each zodiac sign. Aries (March 20–April 19): Take your workout outdoors

Aries are the bold and passionate leaders of the zodiac. If you were born under this sign, you’re someone who likes to start the day early and pack it full of activities. But with so much already on your plate, the best bucket list item for you needs to fit into your daily schedule and workout routine. That’s why you should find a new activity every week that gets your body moving and your heart pumping—and doesn’t leave you feeling overextended.

“Aries like to be moving and doing things, so they should be choosing activities that get them out of the house,” says Ramburger. Summer is one of your favorite seasons because you love being outdoors and soaking in that fresh sunshine, so play that up while choosing your summer activity. “Opt for an exciting nature hike that you’ve yet to explore,” she suggests. “You can take the lead in planning the route and choosing the sights—even better if you can get some friends or a partner involved.”

Or if you’re looking to make new connections this summer, join an adult sports league in your area. You’ll make plenty of memories and might even find a new favorite pastime.

Taurus (April 20–May 20): Create a signature summer cocktail

Taurus is the indulgence-seeker of the zodiac. That’s because it’s ruled by sensual and romantic Venus, the planet of excess and pleasure. If you were born under this hedonistic sign, you’ll spare no expense to enjoy yourself. When summer rolls around, you’re the type of person who looks for a refreshing way to beat the heat and indulge your vices. And nothing says summer to you like enjoying fresh cocktails at brunch or during a dinner party with friends.

Your zodiac sign’s element is earth, so you can sometimes be labeled stubborn or inflexible. But that doesn’t mean you can’t explore something new this summer. Take this time to try your hand at mastering a new skill that you can pull out at parties or enjoy at home—like mixology. You pride yourself on being a little bit extra, and creating a signature cocktail with fresh summer fruits is the perfect way to show off. Not only will this give you a chance to flex your talents in the kitchen, but it’s also a good way to find use for those herbs you’re always growing in your home garden.

Gemini (May 21–June 20): Sign up for an improv class

Ready for a riotous summer? You’re in luck! Gemini is the charming jokester of the zodiac. You are someone who thrives in social situations and can make new friends anywhere you go. With Mercury as your planetary ruler, you have a way with words, whether you’re arguing your point or delivering a punchline. People are captivated by the way you speak, which is why you should take an improv class this summer.

“Summer is the perfect time to embrace—and follow through with—a new hobby or skill, so checking out what your local area offers in classes or courses may open up some ideas and keep you focused,” says Ramburger.

Geminis have good intentions when starting a new project or passion but can sometimes become distracted by something else that captures their interest. An improv class has all the novelty you need. Not only does it give you a chance to sharpen your skills and comedic timing, but it’s also a space for you to let loose, have fun and make new friends in the process. You just might find a hidden passion where you least expect it.

Cancer (June 21–July 22): Create a summer reading list

Cancer might be considered the homebody of the zodiac, but summer is still your season to shine. You love to pamper yourself and enjoy a leisurely afternoon with all your favorite things, whether that means snuggling up in bed watching Netflix with your pets or planning a relaxing day at the beach. Comfort is at the top of your mind, so when you find yourself with free time this summer, spend your lazy afternoons diving into beach reads old and new.

“Your glow-up era always happens during summer, and it’s time to get back in touch with what you believe in and desire out of your relationships,” says Murphy. “This summer is all about learning to choose yourself, standing your ground and fighting for what you believe in.”

She suggests looking for pointers on the pages of your favorite summer romance novels or self-help books. Whether you find yourself inspired by the daring heroine in your favorite fantasy series or mindfulness and self-love mantras are more your speed, there’s plenty you can learn from the pages of a book.

Leo (July 23–Aug. 22): Take a solo trip somewhere unexpected

Leo is the showstopper of the zodiac, but this summer, the cosmos are asking you to step into a different role.

As a fire sign, you like to follow your passions wherever they lead you. It doesn’t matter what other people say—you’ve got confidence in yourself. Summer is the season to show the world what you’re really capable of. And this summer, the stars want you to push yourself just a little further past your comfort zone. You didn’t get this far by playing it safe, so why start now?

Take a chance on life and yourself by planning a solo trip to a new, exotic location. Not only will this help you build confidence in yourself and your decision-making skills, but it’ll also give you a chance to immerse yourself in a new culture and have new experiences. “This summer is about getting out of your comfort zone and trying the things that seem out of reach,” says Murphy. “You’re learning to trust yourself this summer, and taking a solo trip is a great way to build self-confidence while having fun in the sun.”

Virgo (Aug. 23–Sept. 22): Unplug for a Wi-Fi-free weekend

You probably already have your bucket list written up and color coordinated—that’s the kind of person you are. Virgos love to get into the details and help ensure everything is running smoothly. Your planetary ruler is Mercury, the planet of communication and intellectualism, which means your mind is always moving a million miles a minute. And while you normally thrive under pressure, even you need a chance to catch your breath. The heat of summer is sure to slow down your life in more ways than one. Rather than fight it, embrace a little bit of the leisurely lifestyle.

Choose a weekend where you haven’t already made plans and commit yourself to a Wi-Fi-free weekend. “Virgos may have a lot on their plate, but everyone needs a break from the world,” says Ramburger. “Disconnect from the world by turning off your phone, detoxing from social media and reconnecting with nature. Fill your days with nature walks or an evening stargazing trip for the ultimate refresh for your active mind.”

So much of your time lately has been spent focusing on how you can help other people. Don’t be afraid to unplug for a minute. You deserve to be unreachable for a little while.

Libra (Sept. 23–Oct 22): Host an outdoor movie marathon

Libras like to have fun, and summer is the perfect time to hone your hostessing skills. You might not be the most domestic sign by astrological standards, but boy do you know how to put on a party. Rather than being the floating friend of your social groups, as you usually are, spend the summer as the unifier who brings people together. And what better way to introduce all your friends than by hosting a star-studded movie night at your home?

From handmade invitations to a meticulously planned dress code to Instagram-worthy decorations and delicious snacks and candies—you’ve got this on lock. But while you love to show off your expert taste, remember this gathering is more about the community that you can bring together. “You may already have a robust social circle, but it never hurts to meet new people, Libra. Hosting a bonfire or a summer bash where you can celebrate with your friends—and meet some new ones—is a perfect way to highlight your summer,” says Ramburger. And with any luck, this will be the first of many nights you’ll be hosting with your inner circle.

Scorpio (Oct. 23–Nov. 21): Rock out at a karaoke bar

Ready to have some fun, Scorpio? You have a reputation for being the mysterious and standoffish zodiac sign of the bunch. With Mars (the planet of passion and desire) as your planetary ruler, there’s a lot about you that most people don’t know. That’s why you need a chance to let loose! If people could see the real you, they would know that under your cool and calm persona is a hidden rebel just waiting to be let out. And there’s something about the astrology of summer that inspires you to let your wild side run free.

If you haven’t already, it’s time to put a karaoke night with your besties at the top of your summer bucket list. Karaoke is a great way to express your feelings and tap into your inner power. Plus, you’ll have so much fun screaming your heart out to all your favorite songs. Whether you decide to go to a dive bar with a stage upfront or rent a private karaoke room where you and your best friends can party all night long, karaoke night is a great way to let out some tension and show off your dramatic side.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22–Dec. 21): Get wild at the county fair

Sagittarius is known as the wild adventurer of the zodiac, but you don’t need to hop on a flight to have a summer full of fun. You’re somebody who likes to try new things and get down and dirty with the best of them. Curious, open-minded and free-spirited, you know how to bring the fun anywhere you go. That’s why you should save a little cash and enjoy a summer staycation in your hometown. And if you’re looking for the perfect bucket list item to do just that, you’ll find everything you’re looking for at the county or state fair.

Fried food, adrenaline-pumping carnival rides and plenty of games for you to master—the county fair will have you feeling like a kid again. “Sagittarius is learning to let go and have fun again this summer. They should embrace activities that bring a creative spark, delight their inner child and help them feel connected to home,” says Murphy. So grab a few friends, coordinate your outfits down to your zodiac-appropriate jewelry and don’t forget some cash for parking. The county fair is calling!

Capricorn (Dec. 22–Jan. 19): Spend an entire weekend in bed

This one might sound easy, but we know it will be a challenge for you, Capricorn. You’re a mover and shaker. Life doesn’t happen on its own, and you work hard to make sure you’ve got all the luxuries and comforts you need to enjoy it. But the astrology of summer is here to remind you that you’re not running on an endless energy supply! You need to rest and relax just like everyone else. And sometimes, you need to be forced to take a break. That’s why your summer bucket list item is to take a few of those extra personal days we know you have saved and spend a long weekend in bed.

Yes, the entire weekend. That means not working on your laptop while you watch a movie. And not getting up during the slower scenes to do chores around the house. It’s time to get into full couch potato mode and melt into your pillows. Choose a TV series that you can binge or even an old movie you’ve been meaning to rewatch. Or if you’re more of a reader, snag a few books you’ve been meaning to finish and settle in. If you want to take it a step further, treat yourself to a little at-home delivery. A Lord of the Rings marathon and Chinese food in bed? Sushi and steamy romance novels? What could be better than that?

Aquarius (Jan. 20–Feb. 18): Snag tickets to a music festival

Aquarius is the free-thinking rebel child of the zodiac. You like to subvert people’s expectations and leave them guessing what you’ll do next. It’s not like you try to stand out—it happens naturally. You’re a tastemaker because you don’t follow the status quo. And summer is the perfect time to let your personality shine. So embrace your eccentric side and show people that “yourself” is the best thing you can be.

Gather a group of your closest oddball friends and hit up a music festival in pursuit of a hot new band to listen to. The more niche and obscure, the better.

“You’re open to exploring things others may gloss over, so why not take this summer to check out some outdoor music festivals? Who knows, you might find the next cool band that blows up—but you heard them first,” says Ramburger. Not only will it give you a chance to expand your horizons and deepen your artistic taste, but you’ll also have something fun to talk about with new people you meet.

Pisces (Feb. 19–March 20): Take a trip to the lake

You’re an easygoing and laid-back kind of person, Pisces, which means the leisurely vibes of summer suit you just fine. You’re the dreamy wanderer of the zodiac, and you find a lot of joy in escaping into nature from time to time. There’s something about the sound of birds chirping and the wind rustling in the grass that speaks to you on a soul level.

As a water sign, you’re also a deep and contemplative thinker. And the hectic hustle and bustle of regular life can be too much to handle sometimes. When tensions run high and you need a place to get away, there’s no better spot for rest and relaxation than the waterfront. That’s why you should grab a group of your close friends and rent a house by a pretty lake for the weekend.

An impromptu trip to the lake is a great chance for you to soak up some sun and get some much-needed rest. “Summer may serve as a source of inspiration for you, Pisces, so why not tap into those visionary vibes and throw yourself into creating something to express yourself?” Ramburger says. Whether it’s writing, music, art or another creative medium, don’t be afraid to embrace your inner muse and see what can come from it.
