This Is Everything You Need to Know About the Jeopardy! Masters Tournament

Six of the current highest-ranked Jeopardy! contestants will return to compete for this championship title in a new spinoff.

“What is, Jeopardy! Masters?” Ken Jennings asks. The question comes in the form of a trailer for a brand new Jeopardy! spinoff.

It seems like just a few months ago that some of the most iconic Jeopardy! contestants competed for a championship title in the latest episode of Jeopardy! Tournament of Champions. Now, a few of those Jeopardy! favorites are already making a comeback to compete in a new tournament. This time, six of the highest-ranking contestants will vie for a brand new title—the Jeopardy! Masters Champion.

What is the Jeopardy! Masters tournament?

Jeopardy! Masters is a primetime “elite-level” event hosted by Ken Jennings. The competition is designed for the best of the best to battle it out.

Who are the returning players?

The returning contestants are Amy Schneider, James Holzhauer, Mattea Roach, Matt Amodio, Sam Buttrey and Andrew He.

Amy Schneider is the winner of the 2022 Tournament of Champions and holds the second-highest number of consecutive Jeopardy! wins in the game’s history, with a winning streak of 40 games. Fellow Tournament of Champions winner James Holzhauer holds the number 4 spot for most consecutive wins. Matt Amodio ranks fifth on the list of all-time winnings in Jeopardy! history as well as third on the consecutive wins list.

Mattea Roach is the youngest Jeopardy! champion and most successful Canadian in the show’s history. Sam Buttrey is the 2021 Professors Tournament champion and had an average correct response score of around 96%. Andrew He held a noteworthy streak and made it quite far in 2022’s Tournament of Champions.

When does the tournament premiere?

The three-week tournament airs throughout May, and commences Monday, May 8 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC. The competition will also be streaming on Hulu. Each episode is one-hour long rather than the typical 30-minute show format, as each tournament episode will showcase two games.

Throughout the tournament, each of the six will face each other through alternate pairings. In total, there will be ten one-hour episodes, with the finale airing on Wednesday, May 24.
